Bristol Aerospace Leads Canadian SciSat Program

Colorado Springs - April 4th, 1995: Bristol Aerospace Limited of Winnipeg Manitoba announced today at the U.S. National Space Symposium, the receipt of an initial $500,000 (CDN) contract from the Canadian Space Agency for the Program Planning Phase of the Canadian SciSat Program. Under this one year contract, Bristol will assist the CSA in preparing documentation for the announcement of opportunity and provide mission planning guidelines. Bristol will also develop concepts for the satellite, mission opportunities, ground facilities, launch vehicle interface and prepare an implementation plan and cost estimates for the first SciSat mission.

Canada's current Long Term Space Plan was approved by Cabinet on June 3, 1994, allocating funds for two small satellite missions. The new program, named SciSat, will support research in the fields of space astronomy, solar terrestrial relations and atmospheric science. The mass of each spacecraft will be in the range of 250 kg.
