NEWS BRIEFS

RADARSAT LAUNCH RESCHEDULED

October 4th, 1995 - More work resulting from McDonnell Douglas's Delta II solid booster reconfiguration has pushed back the launch of RADARSAT to October 25th and will likely push it back to an even later date.

FEASIBILITY STUDY FOR RADARSAT II AWARDED

October 4th, 1995 - The Canadian Space Agency awarded a $2 million contract to RADARSAT International Inc. to act as lead contractor for a group of Canadian corporations to carry out a feasibility study for the privatization of the RADARSAT II project. The group includes COMDEV Ltd., MacDonald Dettwiller and Associates, Lockheed Martin Technologies Inc., SNC-Lavalin Inc., Spar Aerospace Ltd. and Telesat Canada Ltd..

The study purpose is to validate the market for RADARSAT II and to establish a private industry approach for the system. The study will also define the financial structure of private sector contributions that will complement the Canadian government funding of $225 million for the RADARSAT II project.

ALGONQUIN RADIO TELESCOPE TO BE USED FOR MOON BOUNCING EXPERIMENT

October 3rd, 1995 - A group of amateur radio operators will be using the Algonquin Radio Telescope this weekend to communicate with other amateur radio operators around the world. The group, called the Toronto VHF Society, will use the 46 metre telescope to bounce radio signals off the Moon's surface. "Moon Bouncing" is a workable technique to extend the range of communications at VHF, UHF and MicroWave frequencies.

TELEGLOBE TO BUILD A SATELLITE EARTH STATION IN PAKISTAN

October 2nd, 1995 - Teleglobe Inc. announced today that it had signed an agreement with Pak Datacom of Pakistan for the supply of a satellite earth station valued at US $1.2 million. The earth station to be installed in Karachi features a 9-metre antenna and ground communications equipment.
