Canadian Scientist with Experiment on Shuttle Flight STS-70

Canadian scientist Dr. Richard Wassersug of Dalhousie University is involved in an experiment on Space Shuttle mission STS-70 to measure stomach and torso changes during microgravity. The experiment is a joint project of the Canadian Space Agency and NASA and is a first step to understanding digestion, breathing, posture and childbearth in the microgravity environment of the Space Shuttle. Results are expected to improve the understanding of muscle atrophy and malfunction in the abdomen, problems that are common to victims of paralysis.
