- UVAI LAUNCHED
- The Canadian UVAI (Ultra-Violet Auroral Imager) instrument was launched successfully on board the Interball-2 spacecraft (Interball Auroral Probe) on 29 August 1996, 05:22 UTC, from Plesetsk, Russia. The commissioning of UVAI, which started on 11 September 1996, is progressing well and should be completed in October 1996.
- EXPERIMENT RESULTS RETURNING FROM MIR
- When Space Shuttle Atlantis returns from its mission to dock and transfer supplies with Mir, it will be returning with a host of Canadian materials experiment specimens processed by the QUELD-II (Queen's University Experiments in Liquid Diffusion) furnace currently stationed on Mir. The specimens have been in space since March of this year. QUELD-II will remain aboard Mir Space Station.
- SPACE AGENCY AWARDS SPACE STATION TRAINING COURSEWARE CONTRACT
- HALIFAX, Sept. 11 - The Canadian Space Agency announced today the awarding of a $1.5 million contract to Teesult Eduplus of Halifax. The company will develop multimedia training programs that will be used to train astronauts on the Space Station Remote Manipulator System (SSRMS).
- BOMEM SIGNS A 1.1 M$ CONTACT
- Bomem inc. signed a 1.1 M$ contract with ITT Aerospace / Communications of Fort Wayne, IN, for the development of the main subsystem of the new generation weather satellite infrared sensors. This instrument measures the temperature and humidity profiles in the atmosphere from space. This data is essential for weather forecasting. The new sensor will be placed on the new GOES satellites.

- LCASE PROGRAM AVAILABLE
- The program for "Low Cost Access to Space in Education" is now available on CAISU's web site at http://www.caisu.ca/. Invited speakers include Rick Fleeter of AeroAstro, Mark Allery of Surrey Satellite Technologies and Prof. Robert Twiggs of Stanford University.
- SPACEBOUND '97 CALL FOR PAPERS
- A call for papers has been issued for Canada's main microgravity sciences symposium "SpaceBound". SpaceBound '97 takes place in Montreal from May 11-14. More details can be found on the web at:

- ASSOCIATION OF SPACE EXPLORERS - OTTAWA
- The Association of Space Explorers, the group whose membership only includes astronauts, will be holding their annual congress in Ottawa from September 29 to October 4. Several public relations events are planned across Canada.
