Canadian Protein Crystallization Experiment Launched to MIR

The recent Shuttle launch (STS-86) on Sep.25.97 took aboard with it the Canadian Protein Crystallization Experiment (CAPE). The project contains some 700 protein samples from which crystals will be grown aboard the MIR Space Station and later returned to Earth.

COM DEV and Newbridge to form SpaceBridge

Ontario, Aug.14.97 - COM DEV and Newbridge announced today the formation of SpaceBridge Networks Company a new venture between the two company. SpaceBridge will focus on the development of broadband communications products for satellite networks. The company of 300 (approx) will be located in Hull, Quebec (near Ottawa).

MPB Technologies in Lawsuit against CSA

MPB is currently in a dispute on ownership and transfer of technologies it developed during work on the Microgravity Isolation Mount (MIM). The lawsuit is valued at $6 million.

The Canadian Alumni for the International Space University will be promoting the International Space University through a Road Show to be held from Oct. 3 through 8, 1997 at universities in Ottawa, Montreal, Toronto, Hamilton and Waterloo.

Alouette 1 Anniversary

September 29th is the 35th anniversary of the launch of Canada's first satellite - Alouette 1.

UARS / WINDII Anniversary

September 12 was the 6th anniversary of the launch of NASA's Upper Atmosphere Research Satellite. UARS carried aboard it a suite of atmospheric instruments including the Canadian/ French built Wind Imaging Interferometer (WINDII) - still being operated out of York University / Toronto.
